The Vow to Poverty

Many "uninformed" Christians would associate Catholicism with "controversials" like its views on salvation, saints, and the purgatory.  Some who've dug deeper however, would also "attack" things like celibating & the vow to poverty.

In same manner allow me to make a case with the most latter mentioned.. poverty?  How can God be a blessing God & demanding us to be poor all the same time?

I'll leave the elaborations to my "more educated" fellow ministers.  However, in relevance to my latest observations on many spiritually malpractices and condoned misconceptions of blessings, all camouflaged as faith movements, yes, it's (escatologically) safer for us Christians to take the "opposite" direction & un-liberalistic approach (started from the mindset) to how we view ourselves and so-called "our" wealth.

It's about time that we, the church started to sharpen the senses & fight the disorientation.  I strongly believe that we're entering one of lush foothold of evil whenever we're provoking uneasiness to our own set of values.  Do we still get uneasy whenever teachings are more to "God's love for me, coupled with faith in (my share of) blessings & success" rather than "God's longing for souls, coupled with faith in His awesome provision in our hardships responding to it"?  (see "me" anywhere?)

It's time then to reconsider this story ..

Luke 12:16-21 Amplified Bible (AMP)

Parable of the Wealthy Fool

16 Then He told them a parable, saying, “There was a rich man whose land was very fertile and productive.
17 And he began thinking to himself, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place [large enough in which] to store my crops?’
18 Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my storehouses and build larger ones, and I will store all my grain and my goods there.
19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many good things stored up,[enough] for many years; rest and relax, eat, drink and be merry (celebrate continually).”’
20 But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own all the things you have prepared?’
21 So it is for the one who continues to store up andhoard possessions for himself, and is not rich [in his relationship] toward God.”

Even if what we're doing is promising to fill our barns, I'd propose us to position ourselves along with growing numbers of "180° turning" charismatics (and other "modern" churches) to revisit this Catholic beautiful mind discipline .. The Vow to Poverty.  God owns 'em all, and I'm hauling my @ss here to get more because He still allows me to serve more.
